Plum Coulee Arena Caretaker PT Term

Summary: The CJ Dyck Arena is seeking a dedicated and responsible casual Arena Caretaker for the winter season (October to March). This is a term position and the successful candidate will report to the Public Works Director and Plum Coulee Foreman. 

The ideal candidate will exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills while engaging with the public in a friendly, professional, and timely manner. Evening and weekend hours are required.

Classification: Part Time, Seasonal, Term

Reports to: Public Works Director and Plum Coulee Foreman

Duties of the position include:

  • Facility Operations:
    1. Opening and closing the facility.
    2. Monitoring building security.
    3. Overseeing and monitoring rentals at the Hall.
    4. Handling skate sharpening and rental money collection.
    5. Answering questions from renters or spectators.
  • Maintenance:
    1. Cleaning and maintaining the ice surface, glass, and boards.
    2. Operating and maintaining ice-making and ice-cleaning equipment (Zamboni).
    3. Keeping the lobby, dressing rooms, public washrooms, hockey benches, timekeepers' box, Zamboni room, sound booth, bleacher area, arena entrance, and mechanical equipment clean and in good repair.
    4. Performing minor repairs as needed.
    5. Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Head Arena Caretaker.

 Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Familiarity with operating a Zamboni and other ice-maintenance equipment is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Position Details/Requirements:

  • This term position runs from October 2024 to March 2025.
  • Evening and weekend hours required.
  • Salary is dependent on experience.
  • No benefits are provided.
  • A criminal record check and a child abuse check are required for this position.

  • Responding promptly to any facility-related issues or emergencies.
  • Assisting in the preparation and execution of special events and activities at the arena.
